Academic success in a secure learning environment
The Park School has a reputation for academic success. While it retains the Christian tradition on which it was founded, it welcomes pupils from all denominations and faiths. The school provides day and boarding education for girls and boys from 3-18 plus. Boarding is available from aged 8 onwards.
Entry can be at any age and academic scholarships are awarded by examination at age 8+, 11+, 13+ and 16+; annual scholarships for art, drama and music are also available. Bursaries may be awarded for children of parents in full-time Christian work and special fees apply for children of Service families.
The school has a Nursery for the under 5s, a Junior Department for pupils aged 5-11 years and a Senior Department for students aged 11-18. Learning is accelerated with personal attention available in the small classes.
Subjects studied in the Senior Department cover a wide range of option choices available at GCSE and 'A' Level.
The school follows the National Curriculum at Key Stages 1,2 and 3; pupils sit the SATS examinations. Records are carefully kept to assist teachers in monitoring work and to facilitate an easy progression from the Junior to the Senior school.
During their time in the Junior Department pupils are introduced to many specialist staff.
In the senior Department the core subjects are studied (English, Mathematics and Science) alongside a wide range of options.
The majority of students take at least 9 GCSE subjects leading into as many as five AS Levels in the 6th form. The school consistently achieves academic results well above the national average, making it one of Somerset's most popular schools. It has a particularly strong tradition for awards in art, drama and music.
