A journey in gin as The Queens Arms and Sipsmith make the perfect pairing

From the joys of juniper to the delights of distillation, The Queens Arms’ Gin Discovery event, hosted by Joe Ellis from Sipsmith, will explore the most quintessentially English of spirits

Botanical buffs and novices alike will get a taste of The Queens Arms’ extensive list of gins on a gin glider tasting board, consisting of three varieties mixed with Fever Tree Tonic, served with individually handpicked garnishes and cucumber based snacks. With taste buds tickled, Joe will then delve into the rich history of gin and the story of how Sipsmith set up London’s first traditional copper distillery since 1820, before offering an insight into the finer points of sourcing botanicals, overnight maceration and the distillation process.

Whether served on the rocks or in handcrafted cocktails, by the open fire or on the terrace, The Queens Arms offers over 20 concoctions using local and international gins. The menu includes Conker Spirit, a local gin from Dorset’s first distillery on the backstreets of Bournemouth, served with a garnish of tonka beans which inject delicate flowery spices and a beautiful layer of vanilla. Other highlights include a Brecon Special Reserve served with a classic lime and juniper garnish, Hendrix accompanied by peppercorns and cucumber and the famous pink gin, Eden Mill, served with a beautiful hibiscus flower.

This and is a ticket only event. Tickets cost £15, which includes a gin glider tasting board and cucumber snacks, and can be purchased from Carolyn Fagan, events manager,

Bristol Old Vic Theatre School - Under Milk Wood

"We are not wholly bad or good, who live our lives under Milk Wood."

Set in the fictitious fishing village of Llareggub, this twenty four hour peek into the lives and loves of the likes of Captain Cat, Polly Garter and Willy Nilly has enthralled  audiences over the years with its canvas of nonsense gossip, feuds, affairs, fights, frauds and practical jokes.

Dylan Thomas' beautiful, bawdy, affectionate, reckless and deeply original play pulses with the vitality and relish of real life characters re-living their dreams and desires. Come closer now, and enter the world of Under Milk Wood.

"It is spring, moonless night in the small town, starless and bible-black, the cobbled streets silent and the hunched courters'-and-rabbits' wood limping invisible down to the sloeblack, slow, black, crowblack, fishing boat-bobbing sea."
