Introduction

St Margarets Somerset Hospice provides hospice care in Somerset and parts of neighbouring counties. Our commitment is to improve the quality of life for patients with a life threatening illness while extending support to their families.

Our care is provided free of charge and is based solely on clinical need.

Our Hospices Centres

St Margarets in Yeovil is one of two in-patient and day care centres. St Margarets in Yeovil opened in December 2003 to serve the community living in the broad area which has Yeovil in its centre. The building of St Margarets in Yeovil was supported by the generosity of people and communities in this area who helped to raise the costs of building and equipping the Hospice and recruiting the specialist medical and nursing staff.

St Margarets in Yeovil:

Has sixteen beds for in-patients in single or shared rooms overlooking peaceful, landscaped gardens. Patients are admitted to the in-patient unit for symptom control, respite or terminal care. Our aim is to enable a patient to return home should they so choose.

Has a day care centre for ten patients each week day providing medical, physical and emotional support for patients. It offers relief from the loneliness often felt by patients and a respite for carers.

Offers complementary care and diversional therapy provided by professionally trained staff and volunteers to offer relaxation to all our patients through massage, aromatherapy, music, hairdressing, crafts and other comfortable pastimes. Provides out patient facilities. The units are staffed by specialist doctors, nurses, social workers and other associated professionals.
